Naturalized Grasses along 23 Avenue

The south side of 23 ave from the MacTaggart Sanctuary parking lot to 119th street is one of many areas in Edmonton that has been identified for naturalization. This area borders the Blackmud Creek Ravine and would be an extension of the River Valley system. The first stage of naturalization is to allow the grass to grow while continuing to manage weeds. This area is planned to remain as naturalized grass, however there is potential to progress to the second stage of naturalization in the future, which includes the planting of native trees and shrubs.

Naturalization has economics, environmental and quality of life benefits. You can find out more about naturalization at edmonton.ca/naturalization.Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey.

1. I support the first stage of naturalization (allowing native grasses to return) on the south side of 23 ave from the MacTaggart Sanctuary parking lot to 119th street.

2. The current plan for this location is to allow for native grasses to return. There is however, future potential to plant trees and shrubs in the area as the second stage of naturalization. Would you be in support of the planting of native trees and shrubs in this area?

3. What benefits of naturalization and the urban forest are most important to you? (Please choose all that apply.)

4. Are there any aspects of naturalization (naturalized grass of planting trees & shrubs) that concern you?

5. Do you live in the Twin Brooks, Blue Quill Estates or Blue Quill area?

6. How do you use the green space along 23 avenue between the MacTaggart Ravine parking lot and 119 th Street?

7. Do you have any other comments or questions related to the naturalization of this area?

8. The road medians along 23rd avenue between Terwillegar Drive and 111 street are also under consideration for naturalization (allowing the grass to grow). Would you support this naturalization?
