The South Central Jefferson Avenue Area Plan is the result of a comprehensive planning effort initiated in February 2025 with a purpose of guiding future sustainable growth on Jefferson Avenue, and adjacent neighborhoods, between Mercury Boulevard and J. Clyde Morris Boulevard.
The success or deterioration of commercial corridors impact the neighborhoods they traverse. Successful commercial corridors generate visitors, provide a variety of goods and services for their residents, facilitate multi-modal connectivity to and across roadways from adjacent neighborhoods, provide public space and recreational opportunities, and visually represent the quality of life to be expected. They can affect property values, work commute methods and time, and whether you want to stop or get through the area as quickly as possible. An ideal commercial corridor adjacent to stable neighborhoods, like Jefferson Avenue, is one where citizens can live, work, and play.
