The Exploration Place is a Northern BC non-profit organization and registered charity whose goals are to preserve our local history and foster lifelong learning in the areas of science, technology, heritage, and culture. It is the largest museum and the only science centre in Northern BC and is an important cultural asset for the region and province. The Exploration Place is the designated collections and archival repository for the City of Prince George, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, and the Lheidli T'enneh Nation. Over 100,000 people visit each year, including visitors to Prince George and the region.
We would like to acknowledge that the Museum is located on the unceded ancestral territory of the Lheidli T’enneh Nation.
Mission: To provide a local lens on our evolving world by fostering discovery and engagement.
Vision: To strive to be a vibrant and trusted centre where diverse perspectives and traditions are celebrated.
As a non-profit organization, the Exploration Place Museum and Science Centre is governed by a Board of Trustees made up of volunteers from the community who share the mission and vision of the organization and are responsible for its well-being. Members of the board (Trustees) come from different backgrounds; however, all share a commitment to the goals of The Exploration Place and to giving back to the communities in which they live and work.
Trustees are responsible for the governance and accountability of the organization. This includes five key areas:
- Leadership by setting strategic direction
- Oversight by recruiting, advising, monitoring, and evaluating the Executive Director
- Stewardship by monitoring the operation of The Exploration Place and safeguarding resources
- Measurement of performance and accounting to stakeholders
- Involvement in the broader community
Positions are voluntary, and Trustees are not remunerated for their services.
