The Hamilton Beltline Background

Currently there are no bike paths on the West side of Hamilton. The Hamilton Beltline is the name given to the rail line that runs off of the CSX Corporation’s main line from Millville Ave to the former Champion Paper Mill on the West side. CSX has filed for abandonment of this rail line. This gives the City the opportunity to convert this railway into a recreational bike/pedestrian path on the West side of the City that will connect to our existing trail infrastructure.
This project will ultimately tie together multiple neighborhoods by turning the abandon CSX rail line into a recreational trail. It provides students at the High School and Junior High School with another safe route to school. Additionally, the project will add over 36 acres of green-space for public use in our City.

If Hamilton is to pursue this project then we must begin working towards purchasing the property from CSX before they dismantle the rail line. For this reason we are engaging the public to gather your thoughts and opinions on the value of this project. Thank you in advance for participating in our survey. Your feedback is very important to this process and in seeking additional funding to make this project a reality.

There will be a public meeting regarding the acquisition of this property held at the Hamilton Lane Public Library, 300 N 3rd Street Hamilton, 45011, on January 25, 2016 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Stop by to learn more and provide in person feedback. Brief presentation on the project will occur at 6pm.
