Thank you for your interest in Dairy Australia’s Silage Plastics Recycling trial.

Dairy Australia is looking to select a range of farmers with different farm sizes, locations and practices for the Trail Phase to be conducted in Western Victoria.

Please answer the questions below to help us consider your farm for inclusion in the trial.  The contact information you provide will be used to communicate with you about the trial, while the information on your current silage usage will help us confirm your farm’s suitability.

Question Title

* 1. Please provide your contact details:

Question Title

* 2. How many silage bales do you produce on your farm each year on average?

Question Title

* 3. How many square meters of bulk/pit silage cover do you use on your farm each year on average?

Question Title

* 4. How many kilograms of waste silage plastic do you estimate you will have available across the trial period (April 2022 through to January 2023)? Note: One bale wrap equals approx. 1.2 kg of plastic.

Question Title

* 5. Silage plastic needs to be reasonably clean in order to be recycled. Are you willing to separate your net wrap from bale wrap and shake them off to remove any large solids (eg: rocks, metal, etc…)?

Question Title

* 6. Participants in the trial will be provided with bins and bin liners to store your silage plastic in for collection or drop-off.  What size bin do you think your farm would need?

Question Title

* 7. Do you currently pay a waste contractor to take your silage plastic waste away?

Question Title

* 8. Would you be willing to pay a small fee for collection of your silage plastic waste from your farm during the trial (maximum cost of $25 per large bin or $25 for three small bins worth)? Note: This collection fee will be subsidised by Commonwealth grant funds.

Question Title

* 9. Would you be willing to travel to waste transfer sites located at Killarney, Peterborough, Simpson, Naroghid, or Colac to drop off your silage plastic waste?

Thank you for your interest in being part of this important plastics recycling trial!

We will notify you shortly if you have been selected to be a part of the trial.

Please note that, depending on farmer interest and due to a limited project budget, we may not be able to select all farmers that apply. We will be seeking to work with a cross section of farm sizes and farm types. We will also be limited in the number of collection sites we can operate so farmers may not be selected if their farms are too far from the collection sites being used for the pilot.

We appreciate your taking the time to fill out this questionnaire.
