Course Description: (1-day class) This playful lecture/demonstration introduces eight attributes of creativity to a general audience. Exercises in divergent, convergent and metaphorical thinking help participants connect lecture content to their own interests. 

How can we define creativity?
How can we use divergent thinking to generate multiple problem solutions?
How can critical thinking help us determine the solution most worth pursuing?  
How can convergent thinking increase focus and strengthen results?
What "habits of mind" and "habits of work" can help us to expand our creativity?

Professor Emerita Mary Stewart taught at Florida State University from 2006 to 2017. She has received national teaching awards from Southeastern College Art Association (2010), Foundations in Art: Theory and Education (2009) and the National Council of Arts Administrators (2008). Her artwork has been shown in over 100 exhibitions nationally and internationally She is also the author of Launching the Imagination: A Comprehensive Guide to Basic Design, a best-selling design textbook.

Course Description: (1-day class) Rainforests are hotspots of biodiversity with more described species than any other biome. They host half of the Earth’s wildlife and at least two-thirds of the plant species. Yet these highly productive and important forests are under constant threat. Some of the most interesting animal species call rainforest home, and nearly half of all the drugs used in modern medicine can be traced back to them. Explore the secrets of the rainforest through images, videos and stories of many years of explorations and find why rainforests are so important for our own existence.

Course Description: (1-day class)  While in the class, attendees will be taught a full spectrum of dog bite safety, from the psychology of the dog, how to avoid attacks and self defense methods. How to defend a child that is attacked! Facts and myths about dogs. What is Fence and Barrier Syndrome? There will be class participation, this is a very interactive session.

Course Description: (2-day class)  This popular Brush Pen Calligraphy class will take you from drills, skills and writing tips to a finished quote. Learn about layout, pens, papers, and techniques to help you create better letters. We will also cover flourishing ( those fancy swirls) and some illuminations (decorative capital letters) to enhance your creation. Materials list will be provided.

Course Description: (2-day class) Create a life time memory of your best fur friend , whether is is a horse, dog, cat or even a parrot! This two day class will cover the best angles that make for a nice portrait, how to photograph your pet for good reference, and techniques for painting fur, hair, and textures. Students will learn to paint realistic features like eyes, noses and ears. Suitable for the beginner painter too. All materials are included with a $10 supply fee payable to the instructor, and portraits are painted in acrylic paints.
