Dear Participant,

We are a team of students of Otago Polytechnic conducting this survey as part of our Research Project. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey in regards to Solar Power Systems.

A Solar Power System is an equipment capable of generating clean energy by converting the solar radiation in electricity. For household use, the system consists of a number of solar panel modules usually installed on the roof.

The survey is anonymous. The data collected will be used to better understand the level of awareness of households on Solar Power Systems, gather opinions and analyze future needs and expectations.

Question Title

* 1. Please assess your awareness on solar power generation technologies.

Question Title

* 2. Have you ever researched information on a solar panel system?

Question Title

* 3. New Zealand produces around 80% of the total electricity requirement from reneawable energy sources, but only 0.1% is solar generated. To what extent does this fact surprise you?

Question Title

* 4. Auckland Council targets to power 176,565 homes through solar energy over the next 25 years. To what extent is this relevant to you?

Question Title

* 5. How effective, in your opinion, is New Zealand Government's effort in promoting solar power?

Question Title

* 6. Please rate the marketing efforts made by solar panel companies in promoting their product to households.

Question Title

* 7. To what extent would the following factors encourage you to invest in a solar panel system?

  1 (Minimally encouraged) 2 3 4 5 (Maximally encouraged)
Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Future increase in electricity prices.
Fairly good saving on the power bill today
Long life span of a solar power system (25 years or more) coupled with a low maintainance process

Question Title

* 8. To what extent would the following factors discourage you from investing in a solar panel system?

  1 (Minimally discouraged) 2 3 4 5 (Maximally discouraged)
Number of years it takes for the investment to pay back (usually > 10 years)
Addtional charges ("solar tax") on households who sell their extra power to electricity distributors
Electricity distributors pay only one third of the average market price for the extra power generated by households
Loss of extra power generated if the option of activating the expensive sell-back plan is not chosen
Lack of government incentives
Lack of appropriate loan options
High cost of solar power systems
Panels on the roof lead to concerns on the overall outlook of the house

Question Title

* 9. What is your average monthly electricty bill?

(NZ$)

Question Title

* 10. How much would you expect to save per month (average) on your electricity bill by installing a solar panel system, in order for it to be worthwhile?

Question Title

* 11. What maximum investment would you be willing to make in solar panels?

(NZ$)

Question Title

* 12. Which of the following best describes your annual household income before tax?

Question Title

* 13. How long have you been residing in Auckland?

Question Title

* 14. What age group do you belong to?

Question Title

* 15. Size of the house where you may install a solar panel.
