Introduction to Survey
Guidepost Solutions (Guidepost) has been engaged by the Michigan State University (MSU) Board of Trustees and the Collaborative Advisory Board to conduct an independent, trauma-informed assessment of the culture, practices, and policies related to Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct (RVSM) at MSU. Our approach is centered on ensuring that MSU develops a process that provides for healing with an emphasis on historical accountability, ethics, compliance program enhancements, and institutional alignment.
Guidepost is not engaged to conduct any investigations into historical allegations or individual wrongdoing. Instead, our goal is to identify potential gaps in MSU’s culture, policies, and structure across a broad and comprehensive spectrum, including RVSM policies, survivor support services, reporting and response efforts, and medical and athletic policies, and provide recommendations which are effective and trauma-informed.
Our goal is to create effective mechanisms for survivor participation so that you can engage in a way that feels safe. We want to hear from every perspective in order to create meaningful outcomes. This survey is designed to understand how survivors wish to participate in this assessment, what meaningful survivor engagement looks like to you throughout this process, where you feel safe sharing your experiences, and what areas of reform you are most interested in engaging in during this assessment process. Your engagement is valuable to this assessment because it helps us understand your experiences and gather thoughtful recommendations.
The identities of survey respondents and those who choose to interview with Guidepost will remain strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to MSU or the Collaborative Advisory Board without your permission. Guidepost will never disclose your identity to any additional individual, unless required by law or court order. Please see the footnote for an explanation of when disclosure may be legally required and reach out with any questions.[1] Survivor agency is critically important to our team, and we welcome the opportunity to provide additional information so you can make the decision that is best for you. Any information you provide in this survey or during an interview will be handled with care and respect and will only be used in an anonymized or non-identifiable form in our public report.
If you have relevant information and are willing to be contacted by Guidepost, please provide your contact information at the conclusion of this survey. However, we are also able to receive anonymous feedback through this survey, our hotline email (MSU@guidepostsolutions.com), and our website prompts as well.
The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete, and it will remain open for 90 days, closing at 11:59pm on October 14, 2026.
