Project Title: Chemsex Prevalence, Associated Risk Profiles & Characteristics of MSM in SA
Short Title: Chemsex and MSM in South Australia

The aims of this study are to:
  • determine how commonly Chemsex occurs in MSM (men who have sex with men) in SA
  • determine the risks and characteristics of those MSM who engage in Chemsex
  • determine the associations between Chemsex engagement and STI (sexually transmitted infections) diagnoses including HIV
(‘Chemsex’ refers to sexual intercourse under the influence of certain substances that heighten sexual arousal and dis-inhibition and which are thought to facilitate prolonged sex sessions.)

Through this research, we hope to inform the development of public health intervention strategies to address STI and BBV (blood borne virus) transmission in South Australia.  We do not expect you to personally benefit from taking part in this research.
 
This is a research project and you do not have to be involved. If you do not wish to participate, your medical care will not be affected.

The study involves the completion of an anonymous questionnaire and will not be linked to any identification.

With paper copies, completed questionnaires will be placed in a secure box at reception at each site. Electronic copies will be completed on line.

This research will be conducted according to NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2007
