Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in joining PAHL’s Belvedere Peace Community Garden (BPCG)!  Our Garden, located off Columbia Drive in South Dekalb, has been growing food and community since 2009. We are excited about your interest in BPCG and we hope you will find great satisfaction through your participation. About half of the raised bed plots are rented to community members to grow their own food. The other raised bed plots and inground beds are used by the Healthy Harvest Youth Farm program and to grow food for local food pantries.

Belvedere Peace Community Garden (BPCG) plots are rented annually for a full year from January 1 through December 31. Dues are payable on December 1 for the upcoming year and a member must be in good standing before Jan 31. Otherwise, that member’s right to a plot will be forfeited. New plots may be rented at any time throughout the year. Rent on a partial-year plot will be pro-rated after July. Rents are non-refundable; rentals are not transferable. Plot rental fees are determined using an income-based sliding scale. Plots are assigned after payment is received. A plot is a single 4’ x 8’ area of soil with access to water, tools, and, if available, compost.

New rentals are limited to plot availability in any given year. A member who renews a plot rental may change plot location, but only at the beginning of new rental term, and only if the desired plot is available.

A member must be at least 18 years of age. Members can visit the BPCG from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year. Children must be supervised. PAHL reserves the right to close the BPCG at any time for maintenance purposes.

Question Title

* Before filling out an application, please read and agree to the following guidelines.

As a plot holder at the BPCG, I understand and agree to follow these planting and maintenance guidelines:

I agree to plant within 30 days of receiving my initial plot assignment. I understand that if I do not wish to plant a food crop or ornamentals, then I must plant a cover crop. I agree to cultivate my plot year-round. I will keep the plot weeded and tended. I agree to harvest or donate ripe produce and mature vegetables. I will harvest only from my plot unless given permission by another plot holder to collect from his or her assigned plot. I will avoid allowing produce to go to seed, rot, or otherwise be wasted. I agree to follow organic standards in the Garden’s guidelines. I agree to use only organic soil, fertilizer, compost, and mulch. I will use organic seeds and transplants whenever possible and avoid using transplants grown with polystyrene. I agree to use non-toxic materials such as untreated wood, cinderblocks, concrete blocks, or landscape bricks for a raised bed. I will NOT use treated lumber.

I will keep the area surrounding my plot clear of debris, weeds, and overgrown crops. I will plant crops and decorate my space in a manner that does not unreasonably infringe on another gardener’s space or access to sunlight. I will follow the Garden’s composting procedures and will water wisely. I understand that the Garden is a waste-free zone. What trash I bring into the Garden will be taken out of to be disposed of. I agree to show consideration to fellow gardeners, Garden property, and the community at large.

If I am temporarily unable to work my plot due to illness, work, or other reason, I will immediately notify the staff. If I must resign my Garden membership, I will contact staff directly. I understand that the success or longevity of the BPCG or individual plots cannot be guaranteed.
PAHL organizes workdays as needed to allow members to volunteer time toward general garden upkeep and other Community Garden projects. I understand and will do my best to fulfill the two (2) hours per month volunteer requirement (24 hours annually). All of the maintenance and upkeep at BPCG are dependent upon these community work requirements.
PAHL strongly encourages members to donate any excess produce to charity.

I understand and will follow these additional guidelines:

  • I will NOT smoke or use illegal drugs or alcohol on the premises.
  • I will use language appropriate to a family environment.
  • I will keep the gate closed and will lock the gate, tool shed, and ensure the wheelbarrows are locked up if I am the last person in the Garden.
