Community Voices: Envisioning an October 25th Memorial |
What could a permanent memorial connected to the October 25, 2023 mass shooting represent, hold, or make possible for our community?
The Maine Resiliency Center is inviting community members to share their perspectives through a series of creative, accessible pop-up activities held at events throughout the community. If you are unable to attend, or want to provide additional information, this survey is for you!
MRC is not planning, designing, or developing a memorial, and there is no predetermined proposal or outcome. What community members share will be documented and preserved so it can inform any future memorial effort.
Participation is voluntary. You may share as much or as little as you choose.
Why pop ups about a memorial?
The Maine Resiliency Center regularly hears from impacted people, community members, and professional partners about the importance of remembering October 25th, 2023. We also know that individuals and groups have created, or considered creating, different ways to commemorate the lives lost and the experiences of those impacted.
MRC believes the process of listening, imagining, and creating a shared community vision can have value even before decisions are made about a memorial. MRC beginning this work now allows people to contribute without being asked to react to a predetermined proposal. It also creates a record of community perspectives that can be available to inform future public or community-led memorial efforts.
