Greater Los Angeles Chapter Oncology Nursing Society

 

The Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society is calling for nominations for the 2016 Oncology AOCN RN of the Year Award.  This annual award recognizes outstanding achievements of an Oncology AOCN RN, and will be presented at the 2016 December Chapter Meeting, along with the results of our board election.

 

Nominations are sought for oncology nurses who have made significant contributions to oncology nursing and oncology nursing service; and who have supported and promoted oncology nursing professional practice. Candidates may be practicing as advanced practice nurses (NP, CNS), faculty, research nurses, nurse managers / directors, etc. Candidates will receive an award plaque recognizing their service and will be written up in the GLA-ONS Chapter newsletter.

 

Self-nominations and third party nominations are encouraged.  Completed nomination packets must be received by email on or before December 2nd, 2016.   Nominations will not be part of the electronic balloting for GLA-ONS officers.  Balloting for AOCN and OCN will be done via Survey Monkey.

 

Award Criteria

Nominees must be AOCN (AOCNP/AOCNS) and demonstrate accomplishments in the promotion of oncology nursing service; as well as in one of the following areas of oncology nursing: clinical practice, education, or research.

 

Promotion of Oncology Nursing and Oncology Nursing Service

      •     Enhances the image of oncology nursing among the general public.

      •     Participates in community affairs, legislative activities, or in organizations that affect nursing.

      •     Enhances the image of oncology nursing among healthcare professionals.

      •     Participates in community education.

·       Actively promotes oncology nursing certification among nursing colleagues, other healthcare professionals, and healthcare consumers.

 

Oncology Nursing - Candidates must demonstrate accomplishments in one of the following areas:

I.   Clinical Practice

            •     Develops or uses creative approaches to oncology nursing which enhance quality patient care.

            •     Serves as an example to inspire oncology nurse peers.

            •     Demonstrates a commitment to the care of persons with cancer and their families.

II.  Education

            •     Participates in the education and development of nurses.

            •     Participates in patient/family teaching.

            •     Participates in educating other disciplines about oncology           nursing.

III. Research

            •     Participates in the research process.
