Workforce Equity: Share Your Story

About You

As Bermuda’s workforce and population continue to mature, the voices and lived experiences of older workers are critical to shaping a fairer, more inclusive future of work. While many people may plan for traditional retirement at age 65, changes in health, longevity, and economic needs mean that many older adults continue to work, want to work, or could contribute more—if given the opportunity.

Yet in Bermuda, current laws do not explicitly protect older workers from age-based discrimination. The Human Rights Act 1981 does not list age as a protected category in employment, and while there is no legal mandatory retirement age for most private-sector employees, workplace policies often expect retirement by 65. For public officers, a retirement age of 68 applies.

At the same time, Bermuda’s demographic trends show that older adults (65+) make up a growing share of the population. This makes it all the more important to recognize and retain the talent, reliability, and mentorship that experienced workers bring to the workforce.

Why we’re collecting stories:
Through Age Concern Bermuda’s Hire the Experience campaign, we want to highlight the real impact of age equity in the workplace—both the challenges and the successes. Your story will help educate employers, policymakers, and the public about the realities older workers face and the value they provide. With your permission, your story may be featured in our campaign to raise awareness and push for change.

Thank you for sharing your experience and helping us advance workforce equity for older adults in Bermuda. As a thank-you for completing this survey, providing your contact and demographic information will also enter you into a draw to win a $50 Lindo’s grocery voucher.
