Award Categories and Criteria

Coach of the Year

Through the  Greater Dandenong Sports Awards the City of Greater Dandenong recognises the exceptional contribution by people within our community who work hard in their chosen sport and who enrich the lives of others through providing the opportunity to participate in sport.

Nominations are sought from individuals, teams or sporting clubs whose coach has made a positive contribution to the Greater Dandenong sporting community in areas such as enhancing performance, leadership, engaging disaffected youth through sport and inclusive engagement of all groups within our community to increase participation.

Award Criteria
Consideration will be given to coaches who have demonstrated some or all of the following:
- Made a positive impact by increasing participation and/or inspiring and encouraging others to improve in their sport within the municipality.
- Inspired young players and encouraged greater participation, promoting fair play and making the sport more welcoming and inclusive.
- Instilled positive values in their athletes/players.
- Coaching achievements during the last 12 months.
- Completion of at least a Level 1 National Coaching Accreditation Scheme course or evidence of personal development in the last 12 months.
- Applied appropriate and accepted training theory and coaching principles to improve the level of performance of the team and/or the individual athlete.
- Presented a positive image of coaching and the role of a coach.
- Acted as a role model and a positive influence on the community.
- Demonstrated respect for officials, opponents and supporters.

Coach of the Year nominees must be nominated by someone other than themselves and have a second person to act as a referee. (Referees may be contacted for additional information.)
