Mayne Island Recycling Society Community Survey |
Food Waste Ban Coming!
On January 1st 2015, the Capital Regional District will introduce a ban on ‘kitchen scraps’ (ie food waste) at the Hartland Landfill. Next year (2014) there will be a 20% surcharge on garbage that contains food waste. How will we handle this situation? About 30% of our garbage is organic waste. Where will it go?
The Mayne Island Recycling Society has been asked by the CRD to take the lead on advising residents on alternatives to putting organics into their garbage bags. MIRS is working with the Mayne Island Conservancy on this project.
As a first step, we want to find what the “state of composting” is on the Island. This will help us to decide what needs to be done.
Please take the time to complete this short questionnaire.
Your answers are confidential and will simply be grouped with others to create an overall picture.
