BC Hotels & Emergency Response: Have Your Say

The BC Hotel Association is seeking your input following the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR)’s decision to defund the centralized Emergency Management Booking Platform.

Despite our continued advocacy to maintain this critical tool, the provincial government has chosen not to proceed. Your feedback will help us demonstrate the impacts of this decision on accommodation providers — and the risks it poses to residents, visitors, and emergency response efforts across BC.

This quick poll should take two minutes at most. Thank you for your participation. The poll will close on Monday, July 29th.
1.What region of British Columbia does your hotel operate in?
2.Without access to a centralized emergency booking platform, how confident is your team in managing high volumes of last-minute emergency accommodation requests?
3.Would your property be able to respond to emergency accommodation requests during non-business hours (e.g., late-night or after-hours calls) without a government-supported platform?
4.As a hotelier, how much confidence do you have in the provincial government’s current plans to shelter those fleeing a wildfire or other natural disaster?
5.Do you believe the provincial government should be responsible for maintaining a centralized emergency accommodation platform?
6.Do you have the staffing capacity to respond to a sudden influx of evacuees requiring shelter — potentially including food or extended stays — during a wildfire or natural disaster?
7.In your view, how critical is a centralized booking platform for ensuring an effective emergency response during large-scale evacuations?
8.Do you have any additional comments, concerns, or suggestions regarding the provincial approach to emergency accommodation or the discontinuation of the centralized booking platform?
