The Future Of National Gardens (FNGG) Green Skills sub group are convening an important research study that seeks to:
  • To understand what key skills will be needed to support the future of the horticulture and garden industry (public, cultivated landscapes sector)
  • To understand what the key skills gaps are in the workforce
  • To explore why these gaps exist
The RHS have commissioned Kada Research Limited to carry out the research on behalf of the group. This research includes an online survey of senior gardeners and follow up online interviews and focus groups.

If you have oversight of the horticulture workforce (for public, cultivated landscaped gardens) in your garden, and can provide insight into the current skills (and skills gaps) now and in the future then we'd love you to share your contact details in this online form so we can send you the survey.

Of course, you don’t have to participate either because you don’t want to or you are not the right person. If you think there is another better suited person to complete the survey please send this link on to them instead.

All survey and interview data will be anonymised and written up for publication. Outputs from the research will inform changes in existing qualifications and/or the development of new qualifications as well as help to inform skills, training and workforce development policy in response to the future skill needs of the horticulture sector.  The main report will be launched at Chelsea Flower Show in summer 2027.
