Why an Application instead of a Registration?

We are glad you're interested in attending this retreat on the "Cultural Roots of Restorative Justice" on October 8 and 9 at the Tukwila Community Center.
The reason we're asking people to fill out an application instead of a registration form is that we want to make sure the retreat includes as many diverse communities of Seattle and King County as want to be there. We don't want it to be a first-come, first-served event, and we don't want it to be a retreat that requires participants to pay any fixed fee. We want people from throughout the region to feel welcome, regardless of ability to pay. The retreat has to include people most affected by and involved in our criminal legal system and school discipline systems. The retreat also needs to be an occasion for everyone interested in restorative justice to connect with their own cultural traditions of it.
That's why we are asking you to fill out this application. We will get back to you as soon as possible with a response because we know it's a big commitment on your part to devote an entire weekend to this endeavor. We believe it will be worth your time, so thank you again for your interest.
