Late last year, SDOT kicked off the University Bridge Planning Study. The planning study, funded by the Levy to Move Seattle, will explore feasible rehabilitation and replacement options for the long-term future of the bridge. The bridge planning studies are a part of our effort to better understand the size of Seattle's maintenance backlog and help us prepare for future investments.

University Bridge Project Study Area Map

University Bridge is defined as four (4) different structure types:

  • North Approach (north of Pacific St) – Concrete
  • North Approach (south of Pacific St) – Steel
  • Main Span – Steel Bascule (movable)
  • South Approach - Steel

The survey represents an early opportunity for community engagement on this project. Your participation will help us to better understand how you use the University Bridge and what is most important to you when it comes to a future rehabilitation and/or replacement construction project. As a part of this bridge planning study, we are evaluating several rehabilitation and replacement alternatives taking into consideration costs, potential impacts, risks, and trade-offs of each option.

As the project progresses from planning into design, and eventually construction, there will be more chances for public participation. Please sign up for our project email list if you want to stay up to date on our progress.  You can learn more on our project webpage.
