In November 2016, voters approved Proposition 64. The result changed California law in the following ways:

1) It is now legal for adults to use cannabis recreationally.

2) It is now legal for adults to grow up to 6 cannabis plants indoors at their personal residence.

3) Cities, such as America Canyon, are now permitted to allow commercial cannabis sales, growing, and manufacturing.

The changes described above are all subject to various limitations. The current situation is very complicated because the possession and use of cannabis remains unlawful under federal law.
