The Industrial Designer position focuses on a concept development, research and design execution within juvenile product market. A staff level industrial designer brings a strong level of understanding with regard conceptualizing through sketching, prototype building and 3D modeling.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design research and knowledge of industry trends
- Innovative thinking and ideation along with the ability to communicate these ideas through sketching, 3D modeling and in writing
- Working collaboratively with the mechanical engineering team communicate design thinking and application
- Daily communications with overseas factories
- Some overseas travel to work with our suppliers and factories
- Some domestic travel for conferences and trade shows
- 10% of time annually may be devoted to travel
- Prototyping and bread-boarding ideas as they pertain to the development process
- Communication with outside design and engineering resources
- Working with project management to ensure on time deliverables
- General understanding and application of soft goods, patterns and materials
- Working directly with the senior staff to assist on whatever is necessary to ensure well executed designs and timely delivery
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator (other comparable software also acceptable)
- Excellent sketching skills and 3D modeling experience using Solidworks
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft word
- General understanding of the product manufacturability
- Self-motivated to complete all task required of the job and high attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Passion showing an appreciation for strong aesthetics
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in industrial design
- 2-5 years’ experience in industrial design and product development
- Juvenile product development experience a plus
