Middle Housing Community Survey

We are seeking your input to guide an update of our local development codes regarding middle housing in our community. Your feedback will help us balance the needs of current residents with the growing demand for diverse housing options. The survey should take about 10 minutes to complete.
What is "Middle Housing"?
“Middle Housing” is generally any type of housing type (or style) that falls on the spectrum between a typical single-family home and apartments. Some examples include duplex, triplex, fourplex, fiveplex, sixplex, townhouse, stacked flats, courtyard apartments, or cottages.

Middle housing is intended to be compatible with single-family neighborhoods while providing more housing opportunities. This means buildings are compatible in scale, form, and character with single-family houses and contain two or more residences.

Why?
Middle housing supports housing affordability and increases housing stock while generally utilizing existing infrastructure. The state legislature passed Washington State House Bill 1110, requiring that all cities allow for middle housing to provide more opportunities for housing and a variety of housing types in our communities. Edgewood is required to adopt new housing regulations by June 30, 2025 to ensure compliance with the state law.
