Opening Minds through Art (OMA)
OMA is a unique, award-winning volunteer program that pairs adults with dementia and MC student volunteers who assist in creating a one-of-a-kind art piece. OMA enables people with dementia to assume new roles as artists and teachers and leave a legacy of beautiful artwork.
MC volunteers will receive on-campus training, then volunteer for 7 weeks at the Charles E. Smith Life Communities, a local senior community.
Requirements:

Requirements:
- Must be committed to participating in the entire 8 week program.
- No art experience necessary! Great experience for majors in health, education, psychology, sociology, and art.
- Must be taking at least 6 credits at any MC campus
- GPA of 2.0 or higher

- Tuesday, February 5th 2-3pm Rockville Campus Center 005
Mandatory Training:
- Tuesday, February 19th 1-4pm: Rockville Campus Center 015 (lunch provided)
Volunteer Days:
- Every Tuesday, February 26th-April 9th 2-3:30pm: Charles E. Smith Life Communities, North Bethesda, MD
- Transportation leaves Rockville campus 1pm and returns 4pm
Application Deadlines:
- Monday, February 11th: Online Applications Due
- Wednesday, February 13th: Online Background Check Due (emailed once application is received)
