The Texas Parks and Recreation Foundation is accepting applications from Parks and Recreation Professionals for professional development opportunities. The scholarship for up to $1,000 was established in memory of Parks and Recreation legend Al Johnson, long time Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Richardson, Texas, past-president of TRAPS and founding member of the Texas Parks and Recreation Foundation.

  • Applicants must be employed by a Texas Parks and Recreation agency.
  • Awardees will be asked to write an article for publication on how the professional development scholarship benefitted them after attending requested training/school/conference.
  • Scholarship recipients are strongly encouraged to attend the Texas Recreation and Park Society Annual Conference to accept the award. The conference dates are February 24-28, 2025 in Allen, Texas.
