In Living Color: The Sacred and Celebratory Practices of Black Women | Artist Info & Artwork Submission form

1.General Information

Thank you for applying to be a part of the 6th Annual Dzigbodi Akyea Art Show at Madison College!

The theme for our February 2027 show is "In Living Color: The Sacred and Celebratory Practices of Black Women," curated by local artists Alice Traore and Sharon Bjyrd.

This exhibition honors the many ways Black Women sustain, connect, celebrate, heal, remember, and affirm themselves, and the joy they find along the way. We encourage work that explores tradition, family gatherings, beauty and adornment, cooking, dance, song, rest, self-care, and community care. You are also warmly invited to interpret the theme in your own way.

About this form: We will use this form to determine what work will be selected for the exhibit. We will take into consideration how each piece relates to the exhibit's theme, how the work needs to be displayed, and the number of pieces the gallery can hold.

You can submit up to 5 pieces for consideration. If your work is selected, this form will also be used to collect your contact information and artwork details for the gallery labels. Please review your entries carefully, as we will print your information exactly as submitted, including spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
