The City of Willits is interested in understanding how the local community feels about the removal of the dying Giant Sequoia tree at Babcock Park.
After thorough evaluation by a certified Arborist and Forester, the recommendation has been made to remove the tree due to its failing health. The tree is declining at a rapid rate due to compacted soil, poor drainage, and exposed shallow root base that has limited the trees ability to uptake nutrients.
Given its proximity to the roadway and several adjoining properties there are Public Safety concerns. The tree has been a part of the community for many years and the City of Willits would like to pay it proper respect. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.
