Thank you for your interest in the Manhattan Active Moms Study! The following brief study description should give you a better idea of what your involvement would entail. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via email at or phone at 785-532-7287.

* 1. This study involves a series of three workshop sessions designed to teach new mothers strategies for incorporating regular physical activity into their lives. The workshops will take place on the K-State campus and the sessions will be scheduled based on your availability. Each session will last 1.5 hours, and you will attend the sessions with approximately 6-8 other participants. The total duration of this program will be nine weeks (the 3 workshops will be approximately 1 month apart). All participants will receive a free pedometer to be used during and after the program. We will focus on increasing aerobic activity in the form of walking and/or jogging. We will be testing the effectiveness of this program for increasing physical activity and improving well-being among mothers. We hope you will find it to be beneficial!

All participants will be asked to complete the following assessments:

1) Questionnaires: You will be asked to complete a series of questionnaires online. This should take approximately 15-20 minutes.

2) Accelerometer: You will be asked to wear an activity monitor for seven days. This small apparatus (about the size of a pocket watch) is worn around your waist during the day.

All participants will undergo these assessments at three time-points: baseline (before the start of the program), immediately after the 9-week program, and six months after the end of the program. The total time span of your participation in this study will be approximately eight months.

There is no cost to you for participation in this study. Free parking and childcare will be available on-site during the workshop sessions. Participation in this project is voluntary and you are free to withdraw your participation at any time.
