TITLE OF THE STUDY: Association Between Body Mass Index (BMI) Of African-American College Women And Their Exposure To Magazine Advertisements

INVESTIGATOR: Candice P. Griffin, MBA, MPH

Purpose and procedures of the research
We are asking you to take part in a web-based survey because 1) you are a college student and college represents a time when individuals develop weight-related behaviors independent from their parents and 2) there is a growing literature that suggests that targeted marketing of goods and services may influence the weight-related behaviors. This research study will specifically determine the association between the body mass index and exposure to magazine advertisements.

If you choose to participate in this survey, you will be asked questions about your demographics, such as your age, height, and weight (but no questions will be asked that will personally identify you), the magazines you read, what you eat, and your exercise habits. There are no right or wrong answers. If you are under age 19 or pregnant, please do not respond to this survey.

Participation is voluntary
Taking part in this study is your choice. There will be no penalty if you decide not to be in the study. If you decide not to be in the study, you will not lose any benefits you are otherwise owed. You are free to withdraw from this research study at any time. Your choice to quit the survey at any time will not affect your relationship with your school.

Approximate time for participation
It will take you approximately 15 minutes to complete this survey depending on how long you spend on each question.
