* 2. Please bear with us as we explain how we pay for recreation activities so you have some background information before we get to our questions!

MACRD recreation programs are funded in two ways: 1) user fees that you pay to play and 2) property taxes that lower the cost of what you pay 

For example, if it costs the district $100 to offer aqua aerobics, a user might pay the full $100 or they might pay only $75 (and the other $25 is ‘paid’ by taxes).
The way we decide how much the user pays is based on who gets the most benefit out the program.

Some examples:

1. A private swim lesson benefits the individual person taking the lesson
2. Swim lessons offered to all 3rd graders through a school district has a broad community benefit of preventing future drownings
3. An aqua aerobics or yoga class offered to adults has both an individual health benefit and a community-wide health benefit

Options are:
1) Individual. The person signing up for the activity benefits the most.
2) Individual/Community. Both the individual signing up and the broader community benefit from the activity.
3) Community. The community as a whole benefits from the activity.
