Background Information

The Future Proof: Young People, Disaster Recovery and (Re)building project puts young people at the centre of bushfire recovery efforts and ensures they are supported in their own recovery. The project will recognise and celebrate their unique ideas and abilities.

The North East Local Learning & Employment Network (NELLEN) is a partner in the Future Proof project in the Local Government Areas (LGA) of Wodonga, Towong, Indigo, Alpine, Wangaratta and Mansfield.

NELLEN is recruiting a Peer Worker/s (aged 25 years or under) to a paid role for the period up until 31 May 2024. The Peer Worker will be managed by NELLEN’s Youth Worker, Rebecca Temple. The Peer Worker will improve the wellbeing and leadership skills of local young people. The Peer Worker will receive skills based training such as Youth Mental Health First Aid and will support other young people to access good quality training and opportunities for study (e.g. emergency management, mental health or youth work).

If the above sounds interesting to you, take the first step in applying, answer the following four questions about yourself as a young person:

Question Title

* 1. Do you enjoy coming up with ideas and organising activities or events for your friends or your community? (tell us a little bit about this in a couple of sentences.)

Question Title

* 2. Do your friends ask you for advice? This could be as simple as what you might do on the weekend or advice about work or study. (tell us a little bit about this in a couple of sentences.)

Question Title

* 3. Are you working now and do you drive and have access to a car? (Tell us a little bit about your work, or, if you are not working, tell us about any work experience or community involvement/interests that you have. (e.g. sporting clubs etc.)

Question Title

* 4. Do you have friends or family living in, or have you visited the areas of Corryong, Tallangatta, Mt Beauty, Myrtleford, Bright or Wangaratta? (Tell us a little bit about these connections in a couple of sentences.)

Once you have answered the above questions, the next step will involve Rebecca (Youth Worker) and Andrew (Programs Manager) giving you a phone call to talk through a few more questions, this will happen in the week of 10 October.

If the Peer Worker role still looks like a good fit for you after talking, Rebecca and Andrew will meet you face to face to chat a little more about your interest. This meeting will happen somewhere in your community that is comfortable and private, for example, a cafe or the library.
