CardinalCorps Leader Application Fall 2020 |
Service Scholarship (Priority Deadline: Dec. 15, 2019. Final Deadline Jan 3rd)
A $1500 grant ($750 per semester) will be awarded to first-year students who have demonstrated a commitment to community engagement and academic scholarship during high school. Finalists will be selected by a committee and interviewed at a scholarship interview day on Feb. 1st (please hold this date) or by telephone. The grant will be awarded on the basis of the following criteria:
1. Demonstrated commitment to community service
2. A cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or above
3. Ability to coordinate a service project while at Otterbein
4. Leadership potential
The grant will be reviewed each semester and renewed based on the student’s good academic standing and fulfillment of the community engagement responsibilities.
Students selected to serve as Community Scholars join the Community Engagement CardinalCorps Leaders at Otterbein, a group of students who coordinate weekly service programs through the Center for Community Engagement (CCE). They are supervised by the Assistant Director (AD) of the CCE.
EXPECTATIONS of a CardinalCorps Leader
- Attend a fall training retreat.
- Co-coordinate a weekly community service program (see enclosed program list).
Students selected to serve as Community Scholars join the Community Engagement CardinalCorps Leaders at Otterbein, a group of students who coordinate weekly service programs through the Center for Community Engagement (CCE). They are supervised by the Assistant Director (AD) of the CCE.
EXPECTATIONS of a CardinalCorps Leader
- Attend a fall training retreat.
- Co-coordinate a weekly community service program (see enclosed program list).
- Complete 100 hours of service per year (summer is included).
- Recruit student volunteers for the program and provide necessary support services for those students (e.g., training, coordination of events, transportation, and planning of activities at site).
- Maintain communication with the service site and report challenges, needs, and successes to the AD.
- Attend group meetings, one-on-one consultations with the AD and one hour per week in the Center for Community Engagement.
- Provide appreciation, recognition and reflection sessions for your volunteers.
- Manage a small resource budget for your program.
- Keep accurate records of volunteer names and hours.
- Try to involve faculty, staff, and alumni in your program.
- Assess the impact of your program on volunteers and those served.
- Collaborate with the CCLs to develop campus-wide service events (e.g. community plunges, awareness weeks, service fairs).
- Maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average while at Otterbein.
