Phelps Park Design Survey

Brief descriptions of options for improvements:

Fitness zone: obstacle course and sprint track
Located adjacent to the athletic field, a 40-meter sprint track and fitness equipment would allow adults, teens and children to track and improve their athletic abilities

Play areas
The new playgrounds would replace all existing playground equipment and will include opportunities for climbing, swinging, spinning sliding and imaginative play.

Walking trail: continuous loop around the park with pedestrian lighting
Phelps ‘Park in a bowl’ currently has a sidewalk at the entire perimeter of the block. This proposal would complete the loop on the inside of the playground and provide updated lighting and walking paths.

Community gathering space and shelter
There is particular interest for a shaded and sheltered space for community gatherings, family events and parties. The shelter would measure approximately 20 x 40 feet with space for six to eight tables.

Aquatics area with spray, splash and fountain features
The existing wading pool is scheduled to be de-commissioned and replaced with a splash, spray and fountain feature. This was proposed in the South Area Master Plan as an alternative to the many area wading pools. The proposed design allows for this feature to serve as shaded seating during the seasons when the water features are not operational.
