Why is this Survey Important and how will the information be used?

On 1 August 2024, the ACT introduced mandatory requirements under the Human Rights Commission Act 2005 (ACT) for implementation of a Child Safe Standards Scheme (the Scheme). This applies to all organisations and services in the ACT that provide services for children and young people.

The Child Safe Standards (the Standards) are 10 mandatory, principle-based, and outcomes-focused strategies that will build organisational capability, as well as promote and protect the safety, rights and wellbeing of children and young people. More information on the 10 Standards can be found on the ACT Child Safe website: ACT Child Safe Standards Scheme - HRC

The ACT Children and Young People Commissioner is supporting organisations in the ACT to implement the Standards by providing resources, tools, and training, and working with organisations to prioritise actions to make the greatest impact on child safety and wellbeing.

This short survey will help us learn how the Standards are being actively implemented, where the Standards are the most challenging to implement, what strategies are helping to build a child safe organisation, and which sectors might need additional support.

We will use the information to identify priority resources, tools, and training to assist organisations to implement the Standards, show progress over time, and identify sector specific challenges that may require tailored support.
