At the Summer Meeting there was discussion of shifting E-book Project funds to a different aggregator or a direct publisher. The E-book Working Group is interested in your input for the future direction of the E-book Project. We want to know what investments institutions are making in terms of distance education, investment in other e-book purchases, interest in evidence-based collection, and interest in individual publisher collections. Please coordinate one response per institution by October 1st.

The next set of questions deal with the evidence-based acquisitions model. The E-book Working Group is considering whether such a model would be a better use of funds than our current demand driven acquisitions approach.

Evidence-based acquisitions model allows libraries to define how much they will spend upfront. The publisher then makes a finite set of titles available for use for a defined period of time. For example, a publisher might make all titles published in 2014 available for a full year.

At the end of the open period, the funds committed upfront are applied to the purchase of a selected set of titles. The purchased titles can be identified with usage data, so that the purchased titles have proven value.
