Kia hiwa ra! Kia hiwa ra! Kaiako ma!
Our iwi and community have a special opportunity to shape the entry criteria for a new Teacher Training (Bachelor of Education) programme delivered by the University of Waikato – right here in Kāhui Maunga!
We need your help to define what should be counted as prior learning to help with selection criteria for the programme - meaning your real-world experience in kura, marae, and the community can help you get in.
Through this programme, a qualification that usually takes 3 years away from home could be completed in just 2 years at home through a place-based programme in the Kāhui Maunga!
Listed below are some of the benefits to this programme:
- Three-year course is condensed into just two years of study
- Place-based training meaning that you can study here at home
- Wānanga are held within the Kāhui Maunga by Waikato University
- Practicum can take place within the Kāhui Maunga schools
- Tauira can continue to work and get paid in their role as a kaiāwhina, kaihāpai, limited authority to teach (L.A.T) or teacher aide
- Community, kura and marae engagement is identified as recognition of prior learning (RPL)
- Pastoral care will be provided by the iwi to support tauira through training
- If eligible, applicant can receive the second-year fees free.
Help determine what the entry criteria should look like for OUR people, OUR iwi, OUR way.
