Informed Consent

You are invited to be a participant in a research study conducted by Dr. William Rogers at The University of Rio Grande & Rio Grande Community College. You will be among more than 300 participant adults aged 18 or older responding to this study. We ask that you read this form and contact us with any questions you may have before agreeing to be in the study.

The purpose of this study is to develop a questionnaire that measures the types of bonds people form with their home. You will be asked to respond to questions about your thoughts and feelings about home and about relationships that are likely to be found there. You will be asked to answer a few questions about your background and how you are with your romantic (e.g., marriage, dating) partner(s).

Your responses will be anonymous and there will not be any way for us to link your identity to any response you give. Your responses will not be linked to your name, or your e-mail or IP address. Your responses will not be linked to you through your participation via Psychological Research on the Net or via Social Psychology Network. To help protect your responses, your responses will be kept in a secure, password protected file. At the end of this form, you will be given the chance to give your consent to participate or to opt out of participation. Individual responses will be deleted upon completion of the project. Your responses will be reported in summary form only which also cannot identify specific participants. The summary findings may used in future research.

Your participation is completely voluntary, and your decision to participate or not to participate will not affect any current or future relationship with The University of Rio Grande & Rio Grande Community College. If you decide to participate, you have the right to withdraw from the study at any time without penalty. You have the right to skip any question that you do not feel comfortable answering and still remain in the study. Your participation will take about 45 minutes. This survey has 140 questions.

Completing this study may gain for you some insight into yourself and psychology. You may come to understand how you feel about your home to a greater degree. It is possible though, that you will experience no direct benefit from this study. You will not be directly compensated or paid for your participation in this study.

We anticipate no more than minimal risk of harm to you in this study. Specifically, it is possible that some questions may arouse unpleasant feelings. We do not expect such feelings to be long lasting or substantial. In fact, it is unlikely that anyone participating in this study would experience any discomfort at all, and you are free to exit the study at any time if you feel uncomfortable by closing the web browser. However, if you think you need to discuss your feelings about this study with a counselor, you can find one local to you at the following website: We strongly encourage you to print this page for your records.
