IntroductionThe Southern Forests Freshwater Angling Club (SFFAC) is undertaking a feasibility study to investigate the potential development of an accessible floating fishing and recreation platform at Big Brook Dam near Pemberton in Western Australia.
This feasibility study is funded by the WA Government’s Recreational Fishing Initiatives Fund. The funding has been provided to SFFAC to assess whether the proposed platform is technically, environmentally, socially and economically feasible.
The proposed platform aims to improve access to recreational fishing and other nature-based activities for people of all ages and abilities, including people with disability, seniors, families, local residents and visitors. In addition to fishing, the platform may provide opportunities for activities such as enjoying the natural environment, water access and passive recreation.
This survey forms an important part of the community consultation process for the feasibility study. It is designed to both gather information about community needs and demand for an accessible floating recreation and fishing platform at Big Brook Dam and seek feedback on the draft concept design that has been developed for consideration.
It is important to note that no decision has been made to construct a platform. The purpose of the feasibility study is to determine whether the project is viable and identify the opportunities, challenges, costs and benefits associated with the proposal. Any future construction project would be subject to the outcomes of the feasibility study, required approvals, and the availability of future funding.
A
draft concept design has been prepared to help the community understand the type of platform being considered and to provide practical feedback at an early stage. The concept is indicative only and may change in response to community feedback, technical investigations, environmental considerations, approvals, costs and funding availability.
The draft concept being explored is for an accessible floating recreation and fishing platform connected to shore by accessible ramp access, with safe and stable surfaces, space for people using mobility aids, and features that may support fishing, viewing, family recreation and inclusive access to the water. The final scope, layout, location and supporting infrastructure have not been determined.
Your feedback will help SFFAC and project stakeholders understand the level of community demand, the accessibility barriers that currently affect use of Big Brook Dam, the strengths and weaknesses of the draft concept design, any concerns that need to be addressed, and whether the project is supported.
The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. It is recommended that you review the draft concept design (link above) before starting your survey. All responses will be treated confidentially and reported in summary form only.
Thank you for taking the time to contribute to the future of recreational access and inclusive recreation at Big Brook Dam.
