Join Rock the Earth’s Divert It! volunteer effort at Lollapalooza Music Festival to build awareness around the environmental impacts of food waste and the advantages of composting, a service provided throughout the Festival grounds by the event’s producers as part of their overall sustainability goals.

Rock the Earth, a program of the LCV Education Fund, works with artists, musicians, and their fans to amplify our shared environmental values and build a future worth rockin’ for. Rock the Earth is working with Lollapalooza Music Festival to help minimize the event’s environmental impact by educating and encouraging concert goers to divert their compostable waste from entering the landfill stream. This campaign will help close the food loop, in turn, decreasing harmful emissions warming the planet and increasing nutrient loads back to ecosystems.

The Divert It! team is key to the success of the front-of-house composting system. This team will have specialized duties at assigned stations, such as helping patrons put their waste, recyclables, and compostables in the correct bins, and educating fans about the Festival's environmental initiatives.

This is your chance to be a part of the Festival and provide these important educational services. You will need to feel comfortable engaging strangers around the campaign, but you will receive training and messaging to help you communicate the program. We are working with Loyola University Chicago and other area college campuses to recruit enthusiastic, hard-working individuals who are dependable, professional, and dedicated to fighting for a sustainable future. So, not only will you join a unique, people-powered composting campaign to help protect our planet, but you’ll meet cool people and have the opportunity to enjoy the Festival on the day(s) that you volunteer with us.

Please fill out the application below to apply for a Divert It! volunteer position to help reduce the environmental impact, engage concert goers, and help build a more sustainable future at the 2019 Lollapalooza Music Festival and beyond.

In order to be considered you MUST be available for an online training session Thursday, July 25 at 6 pm CT.

If accepted, you will be sent a confirmation email with your proposed assigned shifts based on your preferences. If you do not choose a specific shift time, you will be given a shift based on availability. Please be specific about what shift times you want to volunteer. The acceptance email will include details about your assigned team position and shift times. It will also include a volunteer code of conduct and agreement that explains the expectations of the role that you will need to sign and complete before your first volunteer shift begins. At that time, you will have the opportunity to accept or decline the volunteer role.  All timely received applications will be considered when filling positions, but those with flexible schedules, and willingness to volunteer Sunday, August 4 and/or multiple days of the Festival will be prioritized.

Submitting this application does not guarantee you a Divert It! Team volunteer position, entry into the Festival, nor that you are guaranteed any or all of the shifts you list. Therefore, if you want to guarantee admission to any specific days of the Festival you should purchase tickets for those days. Rock the Earth is committed to building opportunities for future generations to gain valuable leadership experience for young people to get involved in the environmental movement and works to build a racially just, equitable, and inclusive volunteer community. Questions? Contact Maggie at Rock the Earth at mbruns@lcvef.org. Thank you for your interest!

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.
