The Town of Liberty voted on January 31 of this year to form a "Liberty Withdrawal Committee", charged with drafting a proposal for withdrawal from RSU #3. This process involves many steps and negotiations with RSU #3. We want to provide you with information and give you the chance for input all along the way. Nothing will be finalized until town residents vote on the completed proposal, which will be presented at a public meeting. This survey is an important part of that process, and we would like to hear from all Liberty residents. We will use these survey results to inform our negotiations and plan future information sessions for Liberty residents.

Before you start the survey, here is the timeline for the withdrawal process:

1. Petition completed and sent to Commissioner (completed)
2. Town Vote to engage in withdrawal process. (completed 1/31/26)
3. Committee formed by Liberty Selectboard (completed 2/17/26)
4. Plan developed in collaboration with RSU #3 and RSU #12 ( In progress - planned completion by 5/19/26)
5. Public meeting to share and get feedback about plan progress (TBD, but before 5/19/26)
6. Plan sent to commissioner for approval. (5/19/26 unless an extension is requested)
7. Commissioner has 60 days to approve or ask for changes.
8. Commissioner sets a date for vote, with public hearing 10 days before. (Current plan is for election day, 11/3/26)

Please continue down the page to take the survey and provide us with your input.

I want more information about the withdrawal process.
The quality of education provided to Liberty students in grades K - 5th Grade before the closure of Walker School met my expectations.
I want details about how the decision to join RSU #12 could impact students.
School choice for students in Grades 9 - 12 is important.
The quality of education provided by RSU 3 to students older than 5th Grade meets my expectations.
The quality of education provided to Liberty students in grades K - 5th Grade since the closure of Walker School has met my expectations.
Quality of education for all students is most important.
I’m concerned how withdrawal from RSU #3 could impact our town’s sense of community.
I feel confident that the withdrawal committee can manage the process smoothly with consideration of all parties.
The length of the bus ride to Mt. View Complex negatively impacts students.
The committee should negotiate a plan that includes the opportunity for students currently enrolled in RSU #3 to continue there through graduation, if they wish.
There is a relationship between having high school choice and making our community attractive to current and future students/families.
I want to know the financial impact withdrawal will have on our community.

Question Title

* 3. The committee is trying to gauge community sentiment about whether Liberty should remain a part of RSU 3, or withdraw and seek an alternative, such as joining another neighboring school district. Please tell us how you currently think/feel about that decision.

Question Title

* 4. For the previous question about whether you think/feel Liberty should stay or withdraw from RSU 3, what factors do you see as most and least important for the way you think/feel about that question?

Please RANK the following potential factors in the order they affect your answer to the question about whether Liberty should stay in or leave RSU 3, with the LOWEST number being the MOST important factor (i.e., "the #1 reason") and the highest number you assign being the least important factor.

If you think one or more factors is not important in terms of how it affects the way you think/feel about the decision, just mark it "NA" instead of ranking it. IF YOU DO WISH TO MARK ANY ITEMS AS "NA", IT IS EASIER IF YOU DO THAT BEFORE YOU RANK THE OTHER CHOICES. You must assign either a rank or "NA" to all factors listed.

Question Title

* 5. If there are other factors that influence the way you think/feel about the withdrawal question that we didn't list on the previous question, please tell us here, and tell us where that would rank on that list, for you. If you don't have another factor, feel free to just skip this question and go to the next one.

Question Title

* 6. In terms of how you believe you can best receive information about the school withdrawal process, please let us know your preferences. Please check all that you feel would be appropriate and useful for you.

Question Title

* 7. If there is anything else you wish to share with the Libery Withdrawal Commitee, please feel free to share it here.
