Let’s Talk is Workwell NYC’s campaign to eliminate mental health stigma in the City of New York workforce by creating supportive workplaces and building resilience in employees.

Now more than ever, our mental and emotional health are an essential part of being healthy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us are overwhelmed with loss, uncertainty, loneliness, and anxiety daily. WorkWell NYC wants you to know, "You are not alone."

Approximately 1 in 5 New Yorkers experience a mental health disorder each year. The City of New York employs over 380,000 people, which means as many as 75,000 employees may experience a mental challenge this year. As a result, many employees may be struggling with their own mental health challenges or work alongside someone who is.

Mental challenges are extremely common, but they frequently remain hidden due to the stigma associated with it. Stigma is defined as judgmental attitudes, discriminating behavior, and perceptions that lead to shame and self-neglect. Fortunately, we can change the conversation around mental health.

By signing this pledge, I am committing to work to end stigma and encourage conversations about emotional health and wellness as part of the Let’s Talk campaign. Together, we can offer the chance to talk with compassion and acceptance.

I pledge to:
  • Recognize that mental health is an important component of our overall health and well-being
  • Make mental health a priority in the workplace
  • Reach out to and support my colleagues
  • Speak out against mental health stigma
