Creating safer streets for kids survey
District 1 (Lent Elementary School)

In recent years, Portland has seen a surge in popularity around walk and bike buses, groups of parents and students who bike or walk to school together, with people joining the bus along the way. There are over two dozen bike and walk buses in Portland, including the Lent Bike Bus (pictured above).

PBOT wants to support these community-grown buses and make their routes to school safer and more comfortable for kids. Last fall we worked with the Lent school community, surrounding neighborhoods, and Lent Bike Bus leaders to identify safety or comfort issues with an online survey. The results indicated several concerns both on and off the bike bus route around the school.

While the Lent Bike Bus currently begins in City Council District 3, this project focuses on improvements in District 1 (east of 82nd Ave). The proposals incorporate feedback from bike bus leaders that the route will likely change next year and could incorporates families south of SE Harold St, where the highest concentration of Lent Elementary families live.

There is not funding to construct all the improvements. On the following pages, you will be able to provide feedback on and rank the project proposals. For more information, review the District 1 Treatment Proposals report.
