We invite leaders from across sectors in the County of Middlesex to join us in this celebration and launch of Theme 4 - Power off and Play! This theme is focused on encouraging children and families to reduce recreational and sedentary screen time and find alternatives ways to play!
Celebrate: Throughout the afternoon, be inspired by videos and stories capturing illustrations of how our community has collectively worked together to support Healthy Kids.
Listen and Learn: Hear about Theme 4 of The Challenge, Power off and Play! Our key note speaker will engagingly inform participants about the impact of excess screen time on health and well-being.
Lead the Change: You will walk away with strategies you can champion in your organization. Collectively, we can create healthier environments that support healthier kids.

Screens from the Start: Implications of Early Screen/Media Use on Learning and Development in Children
Screens are a ubiquitous part of everyday life for young children, beginning from birth. This presentation will discuss the current use of screen media in the lives of young children, drawing from the latest research to explore the complex and multifaceted ways in which screen use influences early development—including early learning, language, social-emotional skills, and health outcomes.
Rebecca Parlakian, M.A., Ed. & Human Development, is a child development and parenting expert from the internationally acclaimed ZERO TO THREE, a Washington, DC-based non-profit organization focused on the healthy development of young children and their families.
