More than ever before, people are relying on high-speed internet access for learning, entertainment, doing business, accessing services, storing data, staying in touch with loved ones, and more.

The Lasqueti Internet Access Society(LIAS) is a non profit, largely volunteer run membership network that was founded in 2000 in order to "develop and promote the shared use of computers and other digital communication technologies by the residents of Lasqueti Island for personal and economic development and to promote the educational use of these technologies."

In 2007 LIAS set up a broadband radio transmitter on the Quality Foods building on the Alberni highway along with 'off-the-grid' on-island towers (access points) and radio transmitters. This equipment provides a dedicated, wireless high-speed internet connection to Lasqueti and surrounding areas.

In addition to the network infrastructure, LIAS provides a number of value-added services to the Lasqueti community including free hot-spots, the website, list serve, ride-share app etc.

LIAS recently received a grant from the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development to assess and make plans for our current and future digital needs. It is important for all residents of Lasqueti to participate in this survey to help identify our island- specific needs for our common digital future.
