DEC is conducting a survey to elicit public feedback on the overnight gate closure program at Mossy Point and Roger’s Rock boat launches. The information gathered will inform a more permanent program for future boating seasons and support the state's ongoing efforts to protect Lake George from invasive pests.
Please complete the survey below and/or provide comments. The survey and comment period will remain open until March 12, 2021. Comments may also be submitted by email to info.r5@dec.ny.gov.
Program Background:
In September 2019, DEC initiated a pilot program as an effort to increase protections against aquatic invasive species on Lake George. Gates were installed to limit the use of these facilities to hours of operation when boat launch stewards, provided by the Lake George Park Commission, were on site to inspect boats, trailers, and equipment for the presence of aquatic invasive species and to educate boaters of the importance of Clean, Drain, and Dry. Callboxes, provided by the Fund for Lake George, were located at each boat launch. Boaters who did not get off the water until after the gate was closed could use the callbox. Calls went directly to the DEC Emergency Dispatch and the on-call Dispatcher provided the caller with instructions for opening the gate.
