As we prepare for the 2026 Lights Under Louisville season, we want you to know that being a good neighbor remains one of our highest priorities.
We recognize that on certain days the popularity of Lights Under Louisville can create challenges for our neighbors. That’s why we have spent the past several months working closely with law enforcement, traffic professionals and community leaders to make meaningful improvements for this year.
For the past five years, our partnership with the LMPD has driven continuous improvement, and we look forward to advancing that work. This year’s efforts will focus on close collaboration with Councilwoman Josie Raymond, Major Mindy Vance and the Sixth Division leadership, Doug Sweeney (Assistant Director, Emergency Management Agency, Emergency Services), and an independent traffic management team comprising off-duty and retired officers.
Together, we reviewed traffic patterns, neighborhood access, vehicle flow and previous challenges to develop a comprehensive plan focused first and foremost on safety, keeping traffic moving and protecting access for our neighbors.
Each year we make significant investments and operational changes, and this season is no different.
Your experience living in this neighborhood provides an important perspective. While safety and traffic requirements may limit some options, your feedback has helped identify practical solutions we can put into action.
Three most notably being implemented this year that came directly from you:
The Addition of Car Flags
Vehicles will receive not only hanging tags to display from their rearview mirrors, but they will also receive car flags for their windows to help traffic officers recognize you.
Expedited Neighborhood Route
We worked closely with our partners at LMPD and our traffic management company to create an expedited neighborhood route via Lincoln Avenue and Illinois Avenue.
Dedicated Neighborhood Hotline
Residents can call or text during event hours to connect directly with the on-duty Traffic Captain, who can dispatch an officer to help a resident enter or exit their street or driveway when needed.
Lights Under Louisville has become a holiday tradition for families across our community and beyond. Our goal is simple: bring visitors into Mega Cavern while keeping the public safe, traffic moving, neighborhood streets accessible and our neighbors informed.
As we continue finalizing our 2026 traffic management, we want to ensure we hear from as many neighbors about how we can continue to improve.
