Big Data is here. The question is how to handle it effectively to benefit the society at large. All of us use and/or benefit from big data on a daily basis. Consider WeChat, WhatsApp, Weibo, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, etc. Billions of registered users utilize social interactions through social media. Certainly, big data is more than that. The pace of developments in the field of digital information (from granular data to aggregated data) creates vast spillovers to environmental protection, healthcare and education.
