Liquid Waste Management Plan Survey 2024

The City has begun a four part plan to better liquid waste management & improve water quality within Nelson's major creeks & Kootenay River, through the development of a Liquid Waste Management Plan (LWMP).
A LWMP is a process in which all the issues related to liquid waste for a community are identified and utilized to develop a community-specific solution with the structure of a regulatory document.

Liquid waste is commonly referred to as wastewater and includes sewage, stormwater runoff and anything else that ends up in the City's collection system through toilets, drains, pipes, and gravity runoff through manholes. The collection system is composed of sanitary sewers and storm sewers.
This four part plan will consider an in-depth review of the City’s geography, population, economy, and surrounding area. The process for developing a LWMP will rely on the BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy (ENV) Guidelines for Preparing Liquid Waste Management Plans.

As we develop our plan, we would like to hear from our residents on how best to communicate with you and what your priorities may be with regards to designing our new wastewater treatment plant. We have updated this survey in 2024 to allow for better clarity and to encourage a greater response from the public. Your feedback is important to us.
