Application for consideration of Extenuating Circumstances:

Before applying please read the following

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Please note that applicants who would like extenuating circumstances to be taken into account are required to attach the relevant supporting documentation at the point of submitting this application. It will not be possible to add further information or documentation after submitting, and applicants should make sure all relevant information is included.
- Documentation should be limited to official documents that relate to the provided circumstance e.g. a medical document / doctor’s cert / RIP link / letter from an official body. Personal images/photographs that contain images of the student/family members are not accepted as supporting evidence.
- Decisions once communicated are final, and no further correspondence will be entered into.

BASIS FOR DECISIONS:

- Assignment briefs are communicated early in each course, and students are expected to factor the time needed to complete assignments into their personal schedule. For this reason, only circumstances which could not have been foreseen (e.g. illness or bereavement) will be taken into account.
- Pressure of work will not generally be accepted as an extenuating circumstance, however documented evidence of extreme unforeseen circumstances at work will be reviewed by the Academic team. The decision to take these circumstances into account for academic purposes will be made on a case-by-case basis, with due consideration to their legitimacy and their demonstrable influence on the student's academic performance.
- Applications for extenuating circumstances will not be granted when it is considered that enough time remains before the submission date for the student to complete assignments satisfactorily, given the nature of the particular case.
- Extensions to submission deadlines will not exceed time lost owing to extenuating circumstances.
- In circumstances where the supporting documentation provided by a student demonstrates a compelling need for a prolonged extension of academic deadlines, coupled with the potential adverse impact on the student's learning experience, UCD Professional Academy shall consider offering a deferral as a viable alternative.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION:
