In 2016, the Kitselas Lands & Resources Department started working with the community on a review and update of the 2012 Kitselas Land Use Plan.   In 2016 and 2017, there were many opportunities for community members to provide their input toward an updated Land Use Plan for the Nation.  Opportunities included Reserve Lands Tours, engagement sessions, an Open House and surveys.

All of the community input gathered during the 2012 planning process and in 2016 and 2017 was reviewed and considered for the update to the 2012 Plan.

With support from the Kitselas Lands Advisory Committee, community members, Staff and Management, the Kitselas Lands & Resources Department has created the 2019 draft Kitselas Land Use Plan.  The draft Plan is generally consistent with the 2012 Plan and includes clear definitions for land use categories and an Implementation Plan (Section 6).   A clear set of recommendations has been included for each Reserve (Section 4) and each Land Use Category (Section 5). Land use for each Reserve has been fine-tuned based on community input.

*NOTE: the 2019 draft has not gone through the design phase yet.  Once the draft is updated based on community and council input, the next stage will be to make it stand out with a high quality design.

Please review the 2019 draft Plan and take 10-15 minutes to complete our community survey to provide your feedback to make sure 'we got it right'.

All input collected will remain confidential.

The survey closes on April 30th at 4:00p.m.

Hard copy surveys can be returned to Erica Austin at the Lands & Resources Office.  For more information of help filling out the survey, please contact Erica Austin, Lands Officer at 250-635-5084 or landsofficer@kitselas.com.

Those that complete the survey or participate in any of the engagement opportunities related to community review of the 2019 draft will be eligible to win a $100 meat package from Thornhill Meat Market!

Question Title

* 4. The Vision and Guiding Principles in the 2019 draft Land Use Plan (Part 2, pages 16-17) were developed with extensive community input during the 2012 Kitselas Land Use Plan process.  Do you think the Vision and Guiding Principles still reflect the communities values?

Question Title

* 5. Section 4 (Land Use Planning Areas pages 31-56) describes each Reserve and the land use priorities and recommendations for each one.  Each Reserve also has a land use map.   Land use for each Reserve is generally consistent with the 2012 Plan and considers input from the 2017 Reserve Land Tours.  Do you have any comments you would like to share about Section 4?

Question Title

* 6. Section 5 (Community Priorities pages 58-72) describes each type of land use (for example housing, commercial) and priorities and recommendations for each one.  Land Use categories are generally the same as the 2012 Plan but have been better defined and expanded based on community input in 2016 and 2017.  Recommendations for each land use have been made clear to reflect Kitselas needs and desires and to ensure follow through of the Plan.   Do you have any comments you would like to share about Section 5?

Question Title

* 7. Section 6 contains the Implementation Plan (pages 81-113).  This is important because it helps the community, staff, management and Chief and Council ensure the Plan is not forgotten and recommendations are carried out.   The 2012 Plan did not have an implementation plan.  The Implementation Plan covers each recommendation in Sections 4 and 5 and gives each a priority level (low, medium, high, ongoing, immediate) based on how easy it is to implement, cost and time.  This section also identifies the Department responsible for carrying out each recommendation and potential funding.  Do you have any comments you would like to share about Section 6?
