Outdoors & Open Air.  Small Group Setting.  Face to Face.  Socially Distant.  Age Appropriate.

At this time, we anticipate this being a 3-hour outdoor drop-off program including P.E., Art, and Music as a package deal for homeschool and distance learning families. We are bringing in incredible high-quality academic programs with great resources for students! Classes will be broken down into the following grades: K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Each small group (example: K-2 group) would have no more than 8-9 students, so that the entire program would have no more than 24-27 students. We are hopeful that this set up will help us to maintain Phase 1, 2, and 3 compliance all year, so there would be minimal disruption to the program. We are in the process of deciding a number of factors, and we would like your input!

Question Title

* 1. We anticipate the weather plan for this program being online Zoom classes for the day. We are hopeful that this could work similarly to a snow day in years past – an announcement is made the night before and classes meet the next day over Zoom in the event of precipitation, overly high heat or below freezing cold. This will allow us to avoid a tangle of make-up days and stay on schedule, while the children remain connected weekly to their class. Given this plan, what set up for the year would you feel most comfortable with?

Question Title

* 2. We plan to maintain the state requirement of 6 feet social distancing for art and music, and 10 feet social distancing for P.E. We understand that children will not accomplish this perfectly, and intend to make it a gentle introduction to the idea, using carpet squares, poly-spots, and hula hoops for marking seating. As much as we wish this weren’t the case, we see that students will need to learn how and when to use this practice for the coming year. Given this plan for outdoor instruction and social distancing, what policy about masks do you feel most comfortable with?

Question Title

* 3. Our insurance providers will now require a standard liability waiver (assumption of risk of injury and the like), as well as an infectious disease waiver (assumption of risk for COVID, Flu, and others). Would you be willing to sign these waivers to have your child participate?

Question Title

* 4. We anticipate this being more like a paid drop-off program offered jointly by established businesses than a co-op. We wish to give parents a real break! This means that while you as a parent will not be asked to teach anything, fundraise, organize/ plan/ volunteer for anything, clean anything, bake any cookies, or staff the nursery…. We are also not including any plans for parties, field trips, mom’s socials, yearbook, or any of those community-style extras that you might get with a co-op. What is your reaction to this set-up?

Question Title

* 5. Depending on levels of interest, we may be able to offer more than one location. Which of the following locations is BEST for you (please pick only one)?

Question Title

* 6. One of our best potential locations is currently Camp Highroad in Middleburg, VA. It is a drive out there for some areas of Loudoun! Would you be likely to attend Open Air Electives at Camp Highroad if…?

Question Title

* 7. We have a solid contact for an academic Art program and will bring our P.E. program from GamePoint Athletics, but are experiencing challenges with finding a full-year portable Music vendor. We are still working on it! But if we were to swap in a Spanish Foreign Language option instead of Music, how would you feel?

Question Title

* 8. It’s time to talk price points. As much as we want to keep costs down as much as possible – we do understand the sacrifices that come with homeschooling AND many are experiencing such hardship in this pandemic – we also need to be fair to the businesses that are making such effort to try this out, go portable, make significant adjustments and take on additional risk, and which have experienced a huge drop in their own revenue due to COVID. So that said, I think we must at minimum expect to pay $40/day per student (plus additional supplies at the beginning of the year). This includes paying the 3 vendors for art, music, and P.E., and renting something small like a park pavilion or campground space. Depending on the number of dates we decide to include for the year, there you have your approximate total tuition. This could be broken into quarterly, monthly, or per semester payments. What are you most comfortable with?

Question Title

* 9. Do you have any additional comments or suggestions you'd like to share with us?
